Jivani meets Greer amid ongoing Canada-U.S. trade tensions

Conservative MP Jamil Jivani travelled to Washington on Wednesday for a meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and representatives of Canadian business interests, as Canada continues to navigate trade negotiations with the Trump administration.

The Canadian Embassy confirmed it would have a representative present at the meeting.

A familiar face in Washington

This is not Jivani’s first visit to the U.S. capital. Earlier this year, the Ontario MP met with Vice-President JD Vance — a longtime personal friend — and stopped by the White House, where he said he briefly encountered President Donald Trump.

That earlier trip also included a meeting with Greer. Afterward, Jivani said he hoped to contribute to Prime Minister Mark Carney‘s efforts to negotiate a new trade agreement with the Trump administration.

Poilievre keeps his distance

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre publicly distanced himself from Jivani following that first Washington visit, stating that the MP speaks only for himself and not for the Conservative Party.

Poilievre, who did not travel to Washington during his own recent U.S. trip, said Wednesday he had no information to share about the purpose of Jivani’s latest visit. He added, however, that Conservatives have consistently advocated for tariff-free trade between Canada and the United States.
