It was shortly after 10 p.m. on October 15 when a victim on Poundmaker Cree Nation in Saskatchewan found themselves confronted at gunpoint, their vehicle taken from them in an armed robbery that left them with non-life-threatening injuries. Saskatchewan RCMP have since recovered the stolen vehicle, but the two individuals they believe responsible remain at large — and police are now turning to the public for help.

Investigators have laid charges against Jeremiah Sokwaypnace, 19, of North Battleford, and Terri Anne Fox, 23, of Sweetgrass First Nation, in connection with the incident. The charges are serious and numerous. Sokwaypnace faces ten counts, encompassing robbery with a weapon, assault with a weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, uttering threats and assault. He is also separately wanted by Cut Knife RCMP in connection with an unrelated investigation, adding further urgency to the search for his whereabouts.

Fox faces five charges of her own, including robbery with a weapon, extortion, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement and assault. Together, the charges paint a picture of a violent encounter that has left the community on alert and investigators working to bring both individuals before the courts.

RCMP have released physical descriptions of both suspects to assist the public. Sokwaypnace is described as five feet nine inches tall and approximately 170 pounds, with short brown hair, brown eyes and a tattoo on his left hand. Investigators note that he is known to frequent Cut Knife, North Battleford and Lloydminster, Alberta. Fox is described as five feet seven inches tall and approximately 130 pounds, with black hair, black eyes and a tattoo on her face. She is known to travel to Sweetgrass First Nation, North Battleford, Onion Lake and Lloydminster.

RCMP are explicitly warning members of the public not to approach either individual if spotted. Anyone who believes they have information about the location of either suspect is asked to contact their local RCMP detachment directly. The emphasis on public caution reflects the nature of the charges involved, particularly those relating to the use of a firearm during the commission of the robbery.

Poundmaker Cree Nation, located in west-central Saskatchewan near Cut Knife, is home to a community whose relationship with Canadian law enforcement carries its own complex and often difficult history. The involvement of RCMP in responding to crime on First Nations lands remains a subject of ongoing discussion across the country, touching on questions of jurisdictional responsibility, community safety resources and the broader framework of Indigenous sovereignty. In this instance, the investigation appears to be proceeding through standard RCMP channels, with charges already laid and a public appeal underway.

For the victim at the centre of this case, the legal process is only beginning. They survived the encounter without life-threatening harm, but the experience of being threatened with a firearm and having a vehicle stolen at gunpoint carries consequences that extend well beyond the physical. As investigators continue their search for Sokwaypnace and Fox, the resolution of this case — and what it means for the safety of those living on and around Poundmaker Cree Nation — remains an open question that the community is watching closely.

It was shortly after 10 p.m. on October 15 when a victim on Poundmaker Cree Nation in Saskatchewan found themselves confronted at gunpoint, their vehicle taken from them in an armed robbery that left them with non-life-threatening injuries.
