He stated that the government aims to recalibrate immigration levels to alleviate pressures on housing and the job market.
With international study permits expected to decrease from 485,000 in 2024 to 437,000 next year, this represents a marked shift in Canada’s approach toward international students.
Consequences for Nigerian Aspirants
Nigerians form a substantial segment of Canada’s international student community, and the new regulations present unique challenges for them.
Not only is there a reduction in the number of permits available, but additional constraints, such as tightened regulations on work permits for spouses of international students, further complicate the situation.
