The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has opened an inquiry into bribery claims against its employees, social media personality Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, and activist Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan.

Bobrisky, who faced charges of naira abuse and money laundering, was accused in a viral video by Otse of paying ₦15 million to unnamed EFCC officers to dismiss the allegations.

Remember that in April, various reports suggested that the anti-graft agency had dropped the money laundering investigation against popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, alias Bobrisky.

Bobrisky had pleaded guilty in court to the four-count accusation leveled against him at the time.

Replying to the bribery allegations, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede launched an investigation and summoned Bobrisky and Otse to the agency’s Lagos Directorate for questioning.

EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the investigation, stating that “The EFCC chairman has ordered an immediate investigation of alleged bribery – To this end, the Commission hereby invites both Okuneye and Otse to make themselves available to assist investigators in unearthing the alleged bribery.”

“The EFCC wishes to assure the public that the allegations will be thoroughly investigated, and the result of the findings made public accordingly,” Oyewale added.

Bobrisky faced six accusations of naira abuse and money laundering totaling ₦127 million. However, counts five and six were later withdrawn after an agreement between his legal team and the EFCC.

However, Otse claimed that the deal was the consequence of a bribe. The probe is expected to clear up the situation and address suspicions about corruption within the EFCC.

However, it is left to be seen whether or not the commission will accept wrongdoing publically as this is not the first time it has been accused of bribery and corruption.
